Jo WirdnamBDS Sheffield 1982 GDC 56933 Principal Dentist & Practice Owner
Jo was born and educated in Staffordshire. She graduated from Sheffield University in 1982, working there for two years in a busy city centre practice. She moved south, joining Burgess Hill Dental in 1985, becoming a partner in the practice in 2002 and sole principal in 2008. Jo says:
” My first love isn’t teeth; it’s the people they belong to. That’s the reason I enjoy being a dentist. Being dentally phobic myself as a teenager, I make great efforts to ensure everyone, but particularly children, enjoy their visits as much as possible. Nervous or apprehensive patients of any age are treated with kindness, respect, understanding and patience. You will usually hear more laughing than drilling in my surgery!
I have a keen interest, considerable experience and training in cosmetic dentistry. This is the main focus of my work in practice now. There are many different techniques and materials available to enhance your smile and to suit your budget, including the Bioclear (Clark) Matrix System which can provide a cost effective, minimally invasive alternative to porcelain veneers and crowns. Please see the smile gallery for further information about how we can help you. I am very happy to discuss with you what can be done to make your smile look more attractive and youthful.
Please do ask if you are interested. We give FREE cosmetic assessments, genuinely without obligation and you do not need to be a patient here “
Jo has two great children Harry and Katie. She loves spending time with them especially travelling and skiing. She has recently re- discovered tennis and is not averse to trying any adrenaline fuelled activities!

” My philosophy is ‘prevention is better than cure’. I encourage and educate my patients enabling them to keep their mouths healthy and disease free.
I am interested and experienced in all aspects of dentistry, in particular the treatment of nervous patients. It’s the best feeling in the world to be able to help an anxious patient, who has possibly avoided going to the dentist for many years, build their trust in me and helping them gain confidence and restoring their smile! Alongside dentistry, I’m passionate about travel. I have spent time exploring Australasia and South East Asia including a stint working in Perth. I venture back up north to visit my family in York when I can. In winter I can be found on and off the ski slopes whilst in the Summer I enjoy cycling and tennis. “
