Jo was born and educated in Staffordshire. She graduated from Sheffield University in 1982, working there for two years in a busy practice in the city centre. She moved south, joining Burgess Hill Dental in 1985, becoming a partner in the practice in 2002 and sole principal in 2008. Jo says

“My first love isn’t teeth; it’s the people they belong to. That’s the reason I love being a dentist. Being dentally phobic myself as a teenager, I make great efforts to ensure everyone, but particularly children, enjoy their visits as much as possible. Nervous or apprehensive patients of any age are treated with kindness, respect, understanding and patience. The atmosphere in the surgery is relaxed friendly and informal. You will always hear more laughing than drilling!

I have a keen interest and considerable experience in cosmetic dentistry including tooth whitening and aesthetic bonding techniques. I use tooth coloured fillings which look good and help strengthen your teeth.

I am very happy to discuss with you what can be done to make your smile look more attractive and youthful; sometimes changing something quite small will make a significant difference. Please do ask if you are interested. We all give free cosmetic assessments and we do not use any pushy selling tactics!"

Jo has two great children Harry and Katie. She loves spending time with them especially travelling and skiing. She has recently discovered tennis and is a very enthusiastic but technically inept photographer.

BDS London 1977 LDS RCS Eng 1978

Rachael was born in London, brought up in Hertfordshire and later Brighton. She qualified from the Royal London Hospital in 1977. One of six children, Rachael is the only one to follow in her father’s dental footsteps. Rachael says

“I found my inspiration in my father, working as a Saturday helper, until finally I just wanted to pick up the instruments and do it myself. He made me realise that dentistry could be humane, friendly, very creative and satisfying. It has been my mission to help my patients gain control of their own dental health. I hope to give them the information they need and the confidence to use it. Together we try to work and find the best way forward taking into account the patient’s preferences, time commitments and finances out of a huge range of possibilities. Being here for over twenty five years has given me a marvellous opportunity to get to know my patients, their strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes and hopes and fears”

Rachael has three delightful daughters and she enjoys down-land walks with her dog, music, pottery and backpacking in the wild corners of this amazing world!

BDS London 1998

Sally was raised in York; she graduated with distinction from Guy’s hospital in 1998, worked in oral surgery for 2 years followed by general practice in Brighton and Haywards Heath. Sally joined Burgess Hill Dental in 2008. She says

“I am extremely dedicated to providing high       standards of clinical dentistry and excellent patient care in a friendly environment.

My philosophy is ‘prevention is better than cure’. I encourage and educate my patients enabling them to keep their mouths healthy and disease free.

I am interested and experienced in all aspects of dentistry, in particular the treatment of nervous     patients. It’s the best feeling in the world to be able to help an anxious patient, who has possibly avoided going to the dentist for many years, build their trust in me and helping them gain confidence and restoring their smile!”

Alongside dentistry I'm passionate about travel.  I have spent time exploring Australasia and South East Asia including a stint working in Perth.  I venture back up north to visit my family in York when I can. In winter I can be found on and off the ski slopes whilst in the Summer I enjoy cycling and tennis.

My areas of particular interest and skill are in cosmetic dentistry, including tooth whitening and all ceramic crowns which make teeth stronger and look very natural. I can advise you the best way to get the result you are after.

The people of Burgess Hill have been really welcoming and I am very pleased to have found such a caring practice, one I am really proud to be a part of.  This is where I want to stay”
